ALL president Helen Myers (pictured above at Language World 2007) has created a cool rap using Audacity, Podsafe audio and hub phrases typically found in French GCSE role plays which you can download from the newly revamped MFL resources site along with the words so you can sing along at home.
Mixed with care, Helen has skillfully combined her voice in French and English with the background dance track making sure each phrase does not last longer than two beats. More impressive still, she has included detailed instructions on the site describing exactly how she put everything together so others can follow suit and make personalised resources for their own pupils.
Although Helen has admitted to feeling somewhat embarrassed about publishing her idea, I think she really shouldn't as in fact it is a great example of how a little creativity can transform dry revision materials into something much more engaging.
Why not follow Helen's lead and record a rap too or ask your pupils to create one and then publish it on the web? I'm sure they would enjoy the experience and it may encourage them to revise more than they would otherwise. As Helen has shown, publishing audio is not that hard and offers pupils new distance learning opportunities while promoting listening skills at the same time.
I'm delighted Helen has been brave enough to share her creativity with us. Would you be willing to have a go too?
