Coffee Break Spanish (language-learning with your latte) is a new Typepad blog launched today by Mark Pentleton, Scottish educator and Kara, a languages student from Scotland. Mark and Kara plan to publish a series of free podcasts for the blog and iTunes designed to help students learn Spanish in a 'relaxed and comfortable way'. There is also a premium service where learners can pay for additional resources such as
- full transcripts
- written handouts
- worksheets
- iPod flashcards
- lesson resource packs
To encourage the development of a community around the blog, Mark and Kara have set up a dedicated forum where like-minded chilled language students can meet over a virtual 'cuppa' and chat about their different language learning experiences.
Having listened to Lesson 01 about greetings and asking how someone is, I'd have to say that the podcasting production values are professional and the style is relaxed and informative. I'm looking forward to seeing how the project develops in the future and I would encourage you to try it for yourself. You could always leave a message on the Coffee Break Spanish forum and tell everyone about how you are getting on with the course. It's never too lat(t)e to learn a new language.
Thanks for the shout-out, Joe! Hasta mañana as they say in Spain! [o quizás esta tarde...]
