Barbara Sawhill from Language Lab Unleashed! is setting up a a two part Skypecast starting at 8pm Ohio time and 1am UK time on 30th November and 8pm UK time and 3pm Ohio time on 3rd December. The topic to be discussed is Skype: Teaching Tool vs Network Nemesis? and Barbara is looking for colleagues to Skype in and to discuss how they are using Skype in their language classrooms or how they could. Barbara would particularly like to hear from colleagues who are against the use of Skype for educational purposes for whatever reason to help balance the discussion. If you are interested in taking part, send an email to [email protected] and join in the debate.
Not sure if this is very well known yet, at this time, but Skype has released a 3.0 beta for Windows and there is an extra included with this version that does real time language translation for Skype chats using 38 language pairs, it also speaks many languages as well to help with proper pronunciation of words. Thanks for this. It could produce some interesting results. I'm not sure I'd rely on it for risk of being mistranslated.
