For my second session at the Frenchay Campus, University of the West of England, I pontificated about podcasting for forty five minutes before jumping in a taxi and scooting off to Bristol Temple Meads for a train to Oxford and Language World. Judging by the Post-it notes below, the talk was well received and colleagues seemed to particularly like the practical example at the end.
Having had some time to think more about the sessions over Easter, I think some hands-on time is essential for embedding concepts such as blogging and podcasting. When we included this for my recent ALL Kent session it proved successful. In a conference environment though, this is never easy to achieve. I'm sure the notes below should be a good starting point nonetheless. Do get in touch if you get really confused!

Post-it note comments
Cool! Would like to know how to 'meet' other partner schools to podcast/blog to. Thanks loads. Very inspiring.
Inspiring, enlightening. Fantastique!
(Idea to help people who are not comfortable with technology) - Make one more slide with the different websites you mentioned and instructions to follow to make a simple podcast for example instructions to do Steve_example podcast. Cheers.
Thanks! Really interesting. I'm going to use this in class. When talking about projects (e.g. school X) can you click through from a link on a PowerPoint slide to show us an image of it?
Am amazed how quickly you did the example. I think this could be really confidence building.
Could be used for a podcast between two exchange schools. French kids record in English, English kids in French. Swap files and give pronunciation advice.
AUDACIOUS!
Fantastique! Very inspiring. Can truly see the value of podcasting. Can't wait to set up a blog and get it all started.
I could use podcasting to assess the speaking level of the pupil.
Interested in setting up a blog for a cluster of primary schools. Very useful session therefore.
Audacity and a microphone is all I need! Thank you.
Very inspiring. Didn't know all that was out there, but I think I need another 3 days of personal ICT training to properly get to grips.
The very last section was the most useful as it gave a practical demo, but I needed more time on this than was allocated.
I went to a conference about raising achievement and about how education in the classroom doesn't reach pockets of children within the system. A speaker said how we label children with poor concentration yet they spend literally hours on games and computers. These mediums are fast and furious and so capture imagination and minds. The sort of things you have spoken about today I really feel would combat learning skills of these affected children. Bringing education into the mediums they are both involved and enthralled with. It has to be a way forward for all children in a technological environment.
Focus on pronunciation in a non-confrontational manner. It's very motivating.
Very exciting. Has inspired me to improve ICT skills for a real reason!
Thank you. Very inspiring talk as it is clear you get loads out of this. I shall try to start on it, but will need husband's support (more IT aware), to manage. But am inspired and do believe this is a big way forward in MFL.
I can see enormous potential for this (my own sons aged 13 and 14 spend hours on about 3 or 4 sites simultaneously, communicating with friends on MSN and with headsets etc). I need to find a few spare weeks to play about with it all and build my own confidence!
You make it sound very easy and achievable!! Good to know we can contact you with follow up questions.
Podcasts here we come! Brilliant tool for both inside and outside classroom.
Start a school blog. Include pupils speaking French and Chinese.
Joining the pupils on their own territory - gr8 - can really see now how it will help improve learning while they're having fun and relaxing. Merci - c'était fantastique!
Thank you. NICE WORK! Looking forward to using this. Pretty sure I already have the equipment, so ... here goes. Is there a nice list of target language related to podcasting/blogging?
Very interesting. You made it seem easy and not too scary. Really looking forward to trying this out with different classes.
Please I wish you could come to our school! Your work is inspirational. I can imagine using this with pupils and to involve parents more for stuff to increase their fluency.
Very quick, but inspiring! To use with GCSE for revision, presentation, grammar. To inspire lower ability students at any age.
Very informative and great demonstration at end. Very valuable! Will definitely try out podcasting with all my year groups! I think could be just as useful with higher years. C'était fantastique!
Fascinating session. My pupils would love to do this and share their work with our French link school. Wish there had been time for a more practical session.
I would use podcasting to help the students learn the vocabulary and practise the pronunciation at home.
