PodCamps are grassroots events organised around the world by local enthusiasts wishing to bring podcasters, bloggers, vloggers and anyone interested in using New Media together to share ideas and build communities with each other. The Podcamp concept is the brainchild of Boston-based Chris Brogan and Christopher Penn who came up with the idea in June 2006 after attending a similar type of event known as BarCamp in their hometown. They felt that PodCamps could compliment Barcamps by offering participants the opportunity to focus their discussions and presentations more specifically on New Media.
The UK version PodCampUK is a free two day event taking place on 1st and 2nd September 2007 at the New Technology Institute in Birmingham. You can sign up for the unconference on the PodcampUK wiki where you can also watch a short video clip about PodcampEurope which took place in Stockholm last month. For those who would like to get an insight on the planning of the event, have a listen to this Flashmeeting where promoters Phil Campbell and John Buckley amongst others discuss their ideas (occasional strong language) or you can join this Google Group too.
The success of BarCamp Scotland has already proved that there is a need for this type of event in the UK and hopefully PodCampUK will generate a similar response. I see David Noble has already added his name to the wiki. Let's hope others will follow. See you in September.
Thank's Joe for sharing PodcampUK with your audience. I look forward to meeting you in September. It's going to be a great weekend... :)

Have a great time at Podcamp. It's cold up here in Birmingham so don't forget your jumper!
