To showcase the good work of the Compact project in Wales, CILT Cymru are shooting examples of good practice for a forthcoming DVD to be released by Summer 2008.
Last week, Kathleen Holton Head of Languages at Argoed High School invited Ciara Brennan from CILT Cymru to bring a film crew into her department and interview pupils about their use of digital voice recorders and interactive websites such as Voki.com. In a personal email, Kath told me:
"They filmed and interviewed my year 10s about using DVRs in class and how it would help them with revision and then the pupils explained how learning a language was more fun now I am uploading their mp3 files on to a Voki on my WetPaint Wiki and then they leave a comment with a Voki, by either typing text in and choosing a French voice or uploading an audio file. My year 7s are going crazy sending in French comments on to the Vokis - in their own time after school and at the weekend!!"
This is great news and vindication of the potential of ICT to engage young and older students alike. Check out Kath's wiki to see the Voki comments for yourself.
