eBook to images is free software which can convert text into images so it can be read on a handheld device such as an iPod or mobile phone. Similar to converting PowerPoint slides for learning on the move, it can offer your students more distance learning opportunities for them to revise outside of the classroom at a time which suits them.
For language learners, this downloadable revision could take the form of zipped images of:
- grammar notes
- model answers
- oral transcripts
- verb tables
- vocabulary lists
If you were to make audio versions of the resources above and make them available via a service such as Podomatic, your students could then download them and transfer them on to their mobile devices and be able therefore to not only read your notes, but also listen to them as many times as they wanted according to their preferred learning style.
eBook to images is easy to use and allows you to choose various options such as the height and width of the exported image as well as the text formatting. I can see it being a useful tool for sharing text documents with your students and giving them more choice on when and how they want to learn.
Also worth checking out by Merlin Software is mp3Split which another free tool which automatically cuts up a long audio track into shorter sections according to where the extended silent periods are.
That looks really useful, Joe - do you have any examples in practice?

Hi Alex,
The only example I have is the screenshot above. Perhaps you'd like to try it out with your pupils and tell me how you get on?
