Once you've gone through the training, worked out how to create a podcast and uploaded the results to a podcasting portal such as Podomatic, how do you make it as easy as possible for your pupils to access the recordings? Well you can promote the link to where your podcasts are stored by putting up posters around school, post the link on your blog or RSS feed so that they can subscribe to your podcast in iTunes or add a player to the sidebar of your blog, to let them play the podcasts there and then.
Here are the instructions you will need to add a Podcast Pickle player to the sidebar of a Typepad blog:
- On your Podomatic page, click on RSS Feed and copy the link in the address bar ending in xml e.g http://nodehillfrench.podomatic.com/rss2.xml
- Go to the Podcast Pickle site by clicking on this link:
- Paste in the feed from your Podomatic podcast in the box next to Enter the url to your feed:
- Click on Color 1 and Color 2 to choose the colour of your player
- Click Get your player code
- Copy the code in the box Copy and paste this code where you would like the player
- In TypePad, click the TypeLists tab.
- Click Create a new TypeList.
- Click on the dropdown menu under List type and select Notes
- Type in the title of your Typelist in the box under Title e.g. MFL podcast
- Click Create New List button
- Click in the box under Note and paste in the html code you copied from the Podcast Pickle page
- Click Save.
- Click Publish.
- Click on the link for your home page e.g. the name of your blog and click Save Changes.
- Click VIEW SITE to see the changes.
- Select an episode and press play. You should hear your recording.
If you want to reorder where your player is, follow these notes:
- In TypePad, click the Weblogs tab.
- Click the Design link.
- Click the Order Content link.
- Drag and drop your Podcast Pickle player to the place you want.
- Click the Save Changes button.
- Click the Republish Weblog button
- Click Publish
- Click on the View Your Site link
Hope that has got you out of a pickle!
