At Language World this year, instead of championing more innovative examples of good practice from MFL teachers from around the UK, I decided to present a step by step guide on how to podcast from first principles.

Having already run the session Practical Podcasting: From idea to iTunes, at The Isle of Wight conference, The CILT Primary Languages Show and the Portsmouth Primary Languages Conference recently, I fancied doing something a little bit different this time round and so booked a Flashmeeting as a way of letting colleagues from around the world join the session too and have a backchannel for their comments.
I was absolutely delighted that twenty twitterers turned up. Unfortunately, my USB modem could only connect to a 2G not 3G network and so the slower internet connection meant that the video quality was very choppy as noted by all participants. On playback the audio is OK despite the odd skip whereas the video certainly isn't.
This was disappointing considering how useful the free tool has been in enhancing various TeachMeet Flashmeetings this year giving colleagues the opportunity to take part from a distance in real time and review at their leisure. Nevermind, at least you have the audio and links to fall back on.
Thanks to ALL national exective member Mike Zollo from the University of Exeter for introducing my session and for his kind words.

Dear Joe- This is great. I'd like to show my mum and dad the photos offline, so am trying to download the set using the FlickrDown program.... for some reason, FlickrDown does not recognise 'Joe Dale' as a user name. Have you changed the screen name, or have you somehow disabled downloading a set or have you any clever ideas???!!!

Dear Helen,
I've tried FlickrDown and you're right it isn't working at the moment. It is a third party tool and maybe Flickr have changed something to stop it working.
I suggest you download the images individually by clicking on All Sizes above each photo and choosing the size you want.

But it's working for other Flickr accounts e.g. I had no problem downloading Lisa's and Ewan's ... what is your user name? Perhaps I'm entering the wrong one?

I'm not sure what the problem is. My username is Joe Dale and my id is 14969299@N00.
You may want to try Flickr AutoDownloadr. That may work.
