Last Friday, schools from around the UK celebrated the European Day of Languages. Here are some of the creative highlights:
- The Gordon Schools made the video EDL08@TGS
- Loirston Primary made a pupil voxpop about views on language learning
- Staff at Davenant Foundation School dressed up and pupils ate different foods from around Europe
- Ian Ramsey School took part in a quiz and wrote postcards
- Staff at Helston Community School spoke as many different languages as they could and pupils created some short films
- Bilton Grange played games and sang songs
- Robert May's School did a quiz
- Jo Rhys-Jones suggested some great ideas on the Talkabout MFL Ning
- and Mark Pentleton published a new set of exciting podcasts
Not bad eh? Have I missed anyone?
Oh and Arsene Wenger spoke about the importance of learning languages on the Arsenal website. Very nice.

Hi Lynne,
Thanks for the link. Sorry for forgetting you!

Hi Joe.
Good to see so much activity!
I also hope that the "European Day of Languages" encouraged many people to learn a new language. Especially in the United Kingdom where the interest in learning languages seems to be declining.
You may know that four schools in Britain have introduced Esperanto, the neutral international language, in order to test its propaedeutic values?
The pilot project is being monitored by the University of Manchester. Why not extend this project to other countries as well? Further academic appraisal is essential.
