Michel Guhlin has published a useful pdf guide for getting to grips with podcasting which is certainly worth checking out. It's as simple as 1, 2, 3!

Hi Joe, when i tried to save this and then open it, it said the file was damaged. Is this a problem at my end?

Hi Amanda,
I just right-clicked the link and clicked Save Target As... It downloaded no problem.

Amanda, you may have tried to get it when I was uploading a revised copy! My apologies!
As Joe points out, the updated copy is now there.
Thanks, Joe and Amanda!
Take care,

Hi Miguel,
Thanks for your reassuring comment.
It's interesting you recommend the Olympus as it requires you to convert the wma file it produces to mp3. I prefer iRivers because they can record directly to mp3 and therefore cut out one of the steps although they need a lead to transfer files on to the computer.
Swings and roundabouts really.

I cut out a step and use Audacity for my conversion as well. I just posted a couple of articles on my blog about how I use technology in my classroom.
I use an iPod with and iTalk to do my recording. I can also use the iPod for video and audio this way as well.

iRivers use proprietary tech that forces one to use Windows only. As such, I've dropped them (even though I still use my iRiver T10, which was purchased before DRM was put on the models) and prefer the Olympus brand for low cost and quality.
The iPod with iTalk costs a LOT more than an Olympus WS-model and free software. I wrote about that here:

Take care,

Thanks for your comments Glenn and Miguel.
Here are a few more thoughts:
Audacity is fine for converting wav to mp3 with the LAME encoder although some recommend iTunes for this too.
See link: http://joedale.typepad.com/integrating_ict_into_the_/2007/09/podcasting-pear.html
The Olympus records wma files which cannot be opened in Audacity unless they are converted first to wav, mp3 or ogg vorbis.
This is why I would recommend a recorder which records straight to mp3 like an iRiver although I am aware of compatibility issues with the latest ones with Macs. Sanyo do some good mp3 recorders and these would be worth checking out too.
